One of the most common sources of container fires found within the shipping industry are charcoal related fires.
As we all know, charcoal is an incredibly flammable and volatile commodity that is commonly shipped and used around the world. These fires are caused by a phenomenon called ‘SELF-HEATING’.
Self-heating is due to the reaction between charcoal and oxygen (O2) in air which produces heat, carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and most notably, flammable gases.
Containers typically let a low but steady amount of airflow to occur, supplying the charcoal with an abundant amount of oxygen, while also acting as a green house, trapping heat.
A mixture of high heat and oxygen heightens the chances of the self-heating process to reach critical ignition points, leading to container fires.
We have taken all these conditions into consideration and have found that by utilizing our UNIQLINER, we significantly reduce the chances of container fires from occurring.
By vacuuming most of the oxygen out of the UNIQLINER, we significantly minimize the chemical reactions naturally occurring between the charcoal and oxygen during transit.
By concurrently reducing both high heat and oxygen levels, the odds of the self-heating process reaching ignition point is vastly lowered.
